Join us in attending the 2025 Southwest Electrical Metering Association Spring Meeting, held June 2nd - June 5th, 2025, in Waco, Texas.

Waco Texas, has a rich and diverse history that dates back to the indigenous peoples who inhabited the area long before European settlers arrived. The name "Waco" is derived from the Waco tribe, a group of Native Americans who lived along the banks of the Brazos River. In 1834, the first Anglo-American settlers arrived, drawn by the fertile land and the strategic location along the river. By the mid-19th century, Waco began to emerge as a key trading hub, largely due to its proximity to major transportation routes and its establishment as a ferry crossing point.

In the late 1800s, Waco experienced rapid growth and development, bolstered by the arrival of the railroad in 1886. This connected the city to larger markets and facilitated commerce. Waco became known for its cotton production, and the economy flourished with the establishment of various industries, including a brewery and several cotton mills. The city also played a significant role in the cultural and educational landscape of Texas, with the founding of Baylor University in 1845, which is one of the oldest institutions of higher education in the state.

The early 20th century brought challenges to Waco, including economic downturns and natural disasters, such as the devastating flood of 1935. Despite these hardships, the city continued to grow and adapt, diversifying its economy and focusing on tourism and higher education. Waco became known for its historical sites, like the Dr Pepper Museum and Waco Suspension Bridge, and it has also gained a reputation in recent years due to the popularity of the Magnolia Market at the Silos. Today, Waco is a vibrant city that honors its rich history while embracing modern developments and tourism.
